Since I was a child, I’ve always been drawing fashion illustrations! It has always been my dream to become a fashion designer. I wasn’t very fashionable as a child because of limitations of the fabric I could wear but in my teen years, I began to pick and buy my own clothes, falling in love with fashion!

In high school, I learned how to sew for the first time in a home economics sewing class during my freshman year. My first projects were very simple - a pillowcase, PJ pants, and an apron! Afterward, I joined my high school’s fashion club and designed for the annual fashion show for 3 years. I fell in love with designing, beginning with an idea/theme, the design process and having a piece of clothing as the result of lots of hard work! (I’m very embarrassed about my first projects though, they were so bad haha). During the prom season of senior year, I found the main passion/motivation of my fashion design journey: to design and create clothing that makes everyone feel beautiful, celebrated and confident in their own skin! The fashion industry is working on being more inclusive, providing fashionable options for all sizes, and celebrating all body types. Life is hard enough, finding clothes that make you feel great should not add to that! I couldn’t imagine pursuing anything else. I needed to learn how to become a professional designer, sewer, and learn how to get into the fashion industry!

Are your parents supportive of your career path?
My parents actually support my career!!!! I have been very blessed with understanding and accepting parents. They allowed all of my siblings and me to explore and choose our hobbies, interests, and professions. From a young age, I have always been very artistic. I was never super interested in athletics, science, or math. I have always loved reading, writing, theatre arts, and art class because they are forms of self-expression and creativity! My parents call me their “Tiger” because I have always been stubborn and headstrong about everything in life, including my passions. They decided to let me find my own way and eventually became very supportive by enrolling me in an arts-magnet middle school as well! My parents have always wanted us to find what we are meant to do or be, and be happy because they have sacrificed a lot to ensure we have a better life and opportunities than they had.
